Ricky Gervais did himself no favours as the host with the least this year. His opening monologue however was very funny (see video). Ricky targeted (amongst others) Tom Cruise, The Tourist and the worlds punching bag - Mel Gibson. Ricky garnered no friends with continuous jibes to some of Hollywood's most beloved like Tom Hanks and Steve Carrell, who both thankfully had the quick wit to respond. At times, it was awkward and no wonder he goes missing for at least an hour while others took on the hosting duties. What is commonly known as 'banter' in this country, did not go down a treat with the beautiful people of Hollywood!

Praise to the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognising the talent of our home grown Christian Bale, winning for his supporting role in The Fighter and Colin Firth, winning for his role in The King's Speech. Also representing us was Hugh Laurie and a nomination for House, Andrew Garfield (the new Spider Man) presenting nomination's for Best Motion Picture and Helena Bonham Carter for...well being herself!
